With two possible matches to go in the 2017 US Open Cup, Sporting Kansas City has added home field advantage.
The draw to determine the hosts for the semifinals and final was held on Friday by US Soccer. Sporting KC was named the host for their semifinal match against the San Jose Earthquakes and then Sporting KC was given the highest priority to host the final, should they advance.
In the other semifinal matchup, the New York Red Bulls will travel to play the winner of the FC Cincinnati and Miami FC match, which was postponed due to inclement weather.
The dates and times for the semifinal matches have not been released yet.
The possible hosting scenarios for all five teams for the final are as follows:
Sporting Kansas City host if... They beat the San Jose Earthquakes
New York Red Bulls host if ... They beat Miami FC/FC Cincinnati AND Sporting KC loses
Miami FC/FC Cincinnati host if.... They beat New York Red Bulls AND Sporting KC loses
San Jose Earthquakes will not host.
Sporting Kansas City last hosted the US Open Cup final in 2012 when they defeated the Seattle Sounders in penalty kicks. Sporting KC also win the US Open Cup in 2015 when they took out the Philadelphia Union on the road, also on penalty kicks.
