Dom Dwyer released from USMNT Gold Cup roster

Dom Dwyer is one of six players who was replaced on the Gold cup roster

Dom Dwyer will be returning to Sporting Kansas City after being replaced on the United States Gold Cup roster, US Soccer announced on Sunday.

Dwyer, alongside Brad Guzan, Sean Johnson, Alejandro Bedoya, Cristian Roldan, and Kelyn Rowe, were replaced by Tim Howard, Jesse Gonzales, Michael Bradley, Darlington Nagbem Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey.

Dwyer appeared in three matches for the United States, scoring two goals in his first two matches for the USMNT.

Matt Besler and Graham Zusi will continue on the USMNT roster for the rest of the Gold Cup. The USMNT will appear in the quarterfinals July 19 in Philadelphia, with an opponent that will be determined following the results of the final group games this afternoon.
