Sporting Kansas City will host the New York Red Bulls in the US Open Cup final after the Red Bulls knocked off FC Cincinnati in a 3-2 extra time victory.
The final will be held at Children’s Mercy Park on September 20 at 8 p.m. The match will be broadcast on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes.
The Red Bulls had to overcome a 2-0 deficit in the second half but managed to equalize and send the match to extra time. There, Bradley Wright-Phillips put in the go-ahead goal in the 101st minute to send the Red Bulls to the final.
Sporting KC will be playing in their fourth final in the club’s history and third in the last six seasons. Sporting have never lost a US Open Cup final, winning the title in 2004, 2012, and 2015.
This will be the second US Open Cup final for the Red Bulls, who fell to the Chicago Fire in 2003. The match will also feature two former Sporting KC players, Sal Zizzo and Aurelien Collin, both of whom appeared in the semifinal match.
FC Cincinnati would have been the first non-MLS team to make the final since the Charleston Battery in 2008.
