Sporting Kansas City got some help last night around the lead with the likes of DC, Philadelphia, and Minnesota all getting wins last night (over San Jose, Chicago, and Dallas respectively), a Houston 1-1 draw with NYCFC was a decent result too. Along with Sporting taking the field today, two more games are today, both with implications for Sporting.
Montreal at Atlanta
What we want to happen - Montreal win
The Impact are still outside the race for a playoff spot in the East, but can pull level on points with New York for the sixth and final playoff spot with a win. It’ll keep pressure on teams right at the line in the East and it would also allow KC to jump ahead of Atlanta in the Supporters’ Shield standings.
Orlando at Portland
What we want to happen - Orlando win
Orlando likely isn’t going to make the playoffs, while they still could if results go their way, they’re likely not getting in. Portland meanwhile is level on points with KC and will have just three games left after tomorrow. Portland losing at home combined with a KC win over LA would be huge for Sporting heading into the final few weeks of the season.
