Across State Lines - Rosell Returning to MLS?

Reports out of Portugal have former Sporting Kansas City midfielder, Oriol Rosell set to return to Major League Soccer. Rosell, who transferred to Sporting Club de Portugal in the summer of 2014 has struggled to find time for Sporting, playing in just 12 league games for the club since his transfer. Instead he’s spent most of the past three seasons on loan to other clubs in the Primeira Liga in Portugal.

According to the recent reports, Rosell is going to return from his current loan with Portimonense and make a move to the United States again. A return to MLS would require him to go through the allocation order as Kansas City received a transfer fee of over $500,000 for Rosell. Would a return to KC make sense? Not overly with the emergence of Ilie Sanchez last season as the two play the same position in KC’s formation. Putting him elsewhere in the midfield would negate his best abilities and expose his lack of pace and ability to go box-to-box that is so important for the other two midfield positions in KC’s 4-3-3 formation.

Elsewhere, former KC Wiz midfielder, and the first player ever allocated to the club, Mike Sorber has a new job. The former Philadelphia Union assistant has moved on to LA and joined expansion side Los Angeles FC as their Director of Soccer Operations.
