Sporting Kansas City appears to be signing Scottish attacker Johnny Russell from Derby County FC in England. The Sun reported the transfer fee is £250,000 or approximately $350,000.

Russell has been with the Rams since 2013 and has scored 34 times in 203 appearances with his best season in 2015/16 when he scored 9 goals with 10 assists plus a goal in the Championship Playoffs. He is 27 years old and seemed to be out of favor at Derby but has recently regained form and been back in their lineup with a goal in his last five starts. His previous five appearances were off the bench, scoring twice.

The Glasgow native has been in the Scottish youth system and made a handful of appearances for the senior team.

Russell’s best position seems to be on the wing but in true Peter Vermes fashion can play several spots.

He will be expected to join the club prior to the season start and after the transfer window opens in February.
