Sporting Kansas City didn’t get the result that they’d wanted last night as Los Angeles FC defeated the Houston Dynamo 4-2, meaning that Sporting has fallen into third place in the Western Conference. Today there are only three MLS games and of those three, only one really has any sort of affect on Sporting in their race for playoff positioning. Here’s a look at what Sporting wants to happen in today’s games.
Colorado at Minnesota
What we want to happen - does not matter
Both teams are eliminated from playoff contention so this game is meaningless to Sporting in terms of playoff positioning.
Dallas at DC
What we want to happen - DC win
The one game today that actually can affect Kansas City, Sporting want DC to continue to keep pace in the Eastern Conference with a win over West leaders, FC Dallas. A win would keep Sporting within four points of first place Dallas and allow them to close the gap to a single point if they can pick up a win in Vancouver on Wednesday night ahead of their trip to Dallas next weekend.
Orlando at New England
What we want to happen - does not matter
Orlando is already eliminated from playoff contention while New England is barely hanging on, and can be eliminated themselves if they don’t win today. So in all likelihood, New England won’t be in the playoffs (and would be traveling to KC in the off chance both teams made MLS Cup) so this game means nothing for KC.
