What We Want to Happen Today 10/17

A look at today’s other MLS games.

MLS: Vancouver Whitecaps at Sporting KC Peter G. Aiken

Sporting Kansas City have a game tonight that if the club has aspirations of getting one of the top two seeds in the Western Conference and the playoff bye that comes with it, needs to win. Meanwhile there are two other MLS games tonight, one of which could have a big effect on Sporting’s playoff positioning. Here’s a look at tonight’s two other MLS games and what Sporting want to happen in those games.

Seattle at Orlando

What we want to happen - Orlando win

Orlando is eliminated from the playoffs, Seattle sits three points behind KC, currently in the 5th seed and a road playoff game so this one is simple enough. An Orlando win would keep Seattle at least three points behind Sporting with just two games left. If KC can win that’d extend the lead to six points, though it wouldn’t clinch a home playoff game yet because Seattle would still be able to win out and top KC on tiebreakers. It would put KC right on the verge of a home playoff game though.

Toronto at DC

What we want to happen - Toronto win

DC can still technically equal Kansas City on points if they win out and KC losing out, so DC dropping points somewhere in their final three games would guarantee any potential MLS Cup match up in KC. So while it doesn’t need to happen in this game, getting it out of the way wouldn’t hurt either.
