Juice Boxes and Post Game Stats: Rubio Scores First Playoff Goal

Sporting Kansas City went on the road to Utah yesterday and came away with a draw against Real Salt Lake, Sporting super-sub, Diego Rubio scored his first playoff goal of his career with KC. In doing so he joined some rare company for Sporting. Rubio became just the eighth player for KC to score a league goal, playoff goal, Open Cup goal, and a goal in an international competition for Sporting. Here’s this week’s stats and milestones.

Diego Rubio scored his first playoff goal for KC. He’s now scored a league, playoff, Open Cup, and international goal for KC, he’s the 8th player to do that joining Preki, Dom Dwyer, Chris Brown, Claudio Bieler, Matt McKeon, Francisco Gomez, and Dario Fabbro.

Rubio scored his 19th goal in all competitions for KC, tying him with Daniel Salloi for 17th all time on that list.

Graham Zusi made his 250th start in all competitions, he’s the 4th player to hit that mark.

Zusi made his 292nd appearance in all competitions, breaking his tie with Kerry Zavagnin for 2nd all time on that list.

In the 62nd minute, Zusi moved ahead of Klein and into 6th place for playoff minutes played for Sporting, he finished the game with 1,469 minutes played.

In the 61st minute, Matt Besler passed Chris Klein and moved into 5th place for playoff minutes played for Sporting, he finished the game with 1,470 minutes played.

Besler and Zusi both made their 15th playoff appearance for KC, tying them with Diego Gutierrez, Mo Johnston, and Davy Arnaud for 7th all time on that list.

Tim Melia recorded his 31st tie in all competitions for KC, tying him with Bo Oshoniyi for the 3rd most all time.
