Shades of Blue Soccer Show - The Playoffs Return to KC

This week’s podcast will get you ready for Sunday as the MLS Playoffs return to Kansas City!

MLS: Western Conference Semifinal-Sporting Kansas City at Real Salt Lake Chris Nicoll-USA TODAY Sports

It has been five whole years since the Cup was lifted in KC, but MLS Playoffs are returning to Children’s Mercy Park on Sunday as Sporting Kansas City face off with Real Salt Lake in the 2nd leg of the Western Conference Semifinals.

SKC had plenty of chances to leave RSL with a lead, but something was off. Rivalry games, especially with that team, are ugly. This was no different. The full-strength podcast crew talks about missed chances, Salloi’s poor first touch, and the suspension of Albert Rusnak.

It may have been a rather dull match but both goals were fabulous. We discussed Peter Vermes options and his increased use of substitutions this season. Diego Rubio was given 30 minutes and immediately rewarded his coach.

How did the Yohan Croizet at LB experiment go? This podcast was all about it! We spend a lot of time talking about Croizet and what he has meant to this squad.

We then moved on to everyone’s favorite segment... “Who Is The Starting Striker!?” It is a great problem to have with Rubio and Khiry Shelton playing well and helping the team in their own ways. Also, remember that guy Krisztian Nemeth?

In ExtraTime we talked about Johnny Russell and his call-up to the Scotland National Team for the upcoming Nations League matches.

Versatility has been very important to Peter Vermes as he built this squad over the last several seasons. Might this become a new template for the league to follow?
