Sporting Kansas City has signed free agent Brad Evans as expected. It was all but confirmed a few days ago but now is official. The thirty-two year old defender/midfielder has been signed to a one-year contract with an option for 2019.

Evans spent most of his career with the Seattle Sounders, helping them to four U.S. Open Cups and an MLS Cup in 2016. Add in the MLS Cup and supporters shield with Columbus Crew in 2008 and he has been a key part of a number of successful squads.

”We are very fortunate to welcome Brad to our club,” Sporting KC Manager Peter Vermes said via press release. “With his mentality and work ethic, we know what he can bring to Sporting KC, and for us to add a player with such high character and experience is an incredible opportunity. We are excited for him to be a part of our locker room.”

”I am thrilled for the opportunity to join Sporting Kansas City and help the club pursue championships,” Evans said via press release. “This is an exciting new chapter in my career and I can’t wait to play in front of an amazing fan base at Children’s Mercy Park. I would also like to thank the entire Seattle Sounders organization and their fans for all of their support over the last nine years.

Evans can play center back, wide and in the midfield, adding considerable experience to what was the best defense in MLS in 2017. The question will be with Evans coming off an injury is when and how much can he contribute.
