Sporting Kansas City announced Thursday forward Soony Saad has been waived. Saad has not been with Sporting KC in preseason and it was apparent the club had been shopping him around. Saad played in 70 games for Sporting KC over five seasons with 8 goals and 7 assists.
The Michigan native came to SKC in a weighted lottery in 2011 after signing with MLS after the SuperDraft. Saad played for SKC through 2014 before going to Thailand for a couple years, eventually returning to SKC in 2017.
Saad was unable to consistently break into the starting lineup despite having a rocket of a shot. He should have had a goal in 2017 but the shot was so fast the referee did not realize it had gone in before Jimmy Medranda headed the rebound past the keeper.
