Juice Boxes and Post Game Stats: Besler Becomes Club Record Holder

MLS: Vancouver Whitecaps at Sporting KC Peter G. Aiken

Sporting Kansas City got their win on Friday night over the Vancouver Whitecaps and club captain, Matt Besler set one club record and tied another. He became the club leader in league minutes played for the club and tied Kerry Zavagnin for the most league starts in club history.

Here are some stats and milestones from the game as well as yesterday’s Swope Park Rangers draw with Phoenix Rising.

Sporting Kansas City

In the 54th minute, Matt Besler moved ahead of Kerry Zavagnin and became the club’s all time leader in league minutes played for the club, finishing the game with 20,551 minutes played.

Besler made his 228th league start for KC, tying him with Zavagnin for the most in club history.

Besler recorded his 16th league assist for KC, tying him with Chance Myers for 17th all time on that list.

Besler recorded his 17th assist in all competitions, tying him with Claudio Lopez for 19th all time on that list.

Johnny Russell’s hattrick was the 9th in club history and the 8th in league play for the club.

Roger Espinoza recorded 2 assists, giving him 28 for his career in league play for KC, tying him with Mo Johnston for 6th all time on that list.

Espinoza’s assist gave him 31 in all competitions for KC, tying him with Johnston for 6th on that list as well.

Espinoza’s 2 assists gave him 5 for the season, a career high for Espinoza.

Espinoza’s assist on the first goal was his 7th game winning assist in league play for KC, tying him with Besler, Francisco Gomez and Chris Henderson for 12th all time on that list.

It was his 7th game winner in all competitions, tying him with Besler, Henderson, Matt McKeon, Mark Chung, and Seth Sinovic for 13th all time on that list.

Swope Park Rangers

Felipe Hernandez recorded his 5th assist in league play for Swope, tying him with Colton Storm for 5th all time on that list.

It was his 5th in all competitions as well, tying him with Storm, Ualefi, and Kharlton Belmar for 6th all time on that list.

In the 65th minute, Kharlton Belmar moved ahead of Ualefi and into 8th place for league minutes played for Swope, he finished the game with 2,537 minutes played.

Belmar started his 26th league game, tying him with Mark Anthony Gonzalez for 8th all time on that list.

Belmar started his 30th game in all competitions, breaking his tie with Lebo Moloto for 8th all time on that list.

Colton Storm made his 31st league appearance, tying him with Kevin Oliveira for 8th all time on that list.

Adrian Zendejas made his 30th league appearance, tying him wtih Ualefi for 10th all time on that list.

Zendejas started his 37th game in all competitions, breaking his tie with Oumar Ballo for 4th all time on that list.

Storm and Zendejas both started their 30th league games for Swope, tying them with Ualefi for 5th all time onthat list.

Felipe Hernandez made his 33rd appearance in all competitions, tying him with Moloto and Oliveira for 10th all time on that list.
