Juice Boxes and Post Game Stats: Melia Hits the Century Mark

Along with setting a club record for saves in a regular season game last night, Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper, Tim Melia also reached a milestone for his time in Kansas City. The former MLS pool goalkeeper made his 100th appearance and 100th start in all competitions for Sporting last night. Melia actually became the fifth Sporting goalkeeper to hit that mark, joining Tony Meola (156), Jimmy Nielsen (142), Bo Oshoniyi (110), and Kevin Hartman (100).

Here are more stats and milestones from Sporting’s win last night, and the Swope Park Rangers road draw on Saturday.

Sporting Kansas City

Tim Melia made his 100th start and 100th appearance in all competitions for KC. He’s the 32nd player to start 100 games in all competitions for KC. He’s the 41st player to appear in 100 games for KC.

Graham Zusi made his 224th league appearance for KC, tying him with Nick Garcia for 4th all time on that list.

Zusi made his 184th league start for KC, breaking his tie with Chris Klein for 7th all time on that list.

Johnny Russell became the third KC player to score on their birthday, joining Paul Wright who scored on his 29th birthday on 7/29/1998 vs New York, and Soony Saad, who scored on his 19th birthday on 8/17/2011 vs Portland.

Roger Espinoza recorded his 26th assist in league play, tying him with Josh Wolff for 7th all time on that list.

Espinoza made his 196th league appearance for KC, breaking his tie with Jack Jewsbury for 9th all time on that list.

Swope Park Rangers

Amer Didic started his 44th league game with Swope, breaking his tie with Tyler Pasher for 2nd all time on that list.

In the 53rd minute, Colton Storm moved ahead of Ualefi and into 7th place for league minutes played for Swope. Then in the 83rd minute, Storm moved ahead of Mark Anthony Gonzalez and into 6th place for league minutes played for Swope, he finished the game wtih 2,549 minutes played.

Storm made his 30th league appearance, tying him with Ualefi for 9th all time on that list.

Storm made his 34th appearance in all competitions, breaking his tie with Lebo Moloto and Kevin Oliveira for 9th all time on that list.

Storm started his 29th game in league play, tying him with Adrian Zendejas for 6th all time on that list.

Kharlton Belmar made his 32nd league appearance, breaking his tie with Oliveira for 7th all time on that list.

Belmar made his 36th appearance in all competitions, tying him with Zendejas for 7th all time on that list.

Belmar made his 25th league appearance for Swope, tying him with Moloto and Oliveira for 9th all time on that list.

Belmar made his 29th start in all competitions, tying him with Moloto for 8th all time on that list.
