Sporting KC Injury update: Gutierrez out two to three months

SKC’s most productive midfielder had surgery Tuesday

This morning, Sporting Kansas City manager Peter Vermes was asked about the health of his club. When referencing Felipe Gutierrez he stated, “We are still assessing that situation as we go. He had a little relapse last week and we are still assessing it.”

Apparently the assessment was surgery as the Chilean midfielder was undergoing an operation this morning.

Sporting Kansas City announced in the afternoon that midfielder Felipe Gutierrez underwent successful sports hernia surgery on Tuesday and will be sidelined for two to three months.

So bad news is Gutierrez will be out two to three months, the good news is he should be available by sometime in August.

Other injury news:

“Gerso should be entering training, do some more stuff today and should probably full in tomorrow I am hoping,” Vermes told The Blue Testament. Gerso was practicing on the side Tuesday morning.

Adrian Zendejas received a blow to the head (hard shot in practice) and following concussion protocols he has been out since late last week. “Zendejas is probably a few days out from returning to training,” Vermes stated.
