The Swope Park Rangers fell to the Real Monarchs 4-1 in a devastating loss, snapping a five-game undefeated streak at Zions Bank Stadium. Kharlton Belmar scored the Rangers’ lone goal, marking his league-leading eighth goal of the season.
Belmar started the night strong after clipping an early goal off a good through-ball by Hadji Barry in the 8th minute. However, the Monarchs quickly gained control of the first half as they started to create opportunities.
The Rangers rallied until the 24th minute when Kalen Ryden leveled the game with a goal off a deflected header. Just moments before halftime, Adrian Zendejas — returning to the field after being cleared by the concussion protocol — was able to deflect Richard Ledezma. Although, it wouldn’t take long for Ryden to add his second of the night leading the Monarchs into halftime 2-1.
The Monarchs continued to put pressure on the Rangers during the second half and were able to find their third goal in 55th minute when Juan Mare scored his second off of a near-post setup by Aaron Herrera.
Five minutes later, the Rangers would get hit again after MLS Veteran Brad Evans, appearing for the second time this season, allowed an own goal in the 60th minute following some miscommunication in the net. Unfortunately, the Rangers couldn’t turn things around for reminder of the half ultimately suffering a 4-1 loss.
The Rangers will finish their three-game road campaign when they visit Rio Grande Valley FC on Saturday, May 19th. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm.
