The big MLS news today is the US Open Cup final taking place tonight between the Houston Dynamo and Philadelphia Union in Houston. While that game is taking place though there is one MLS game tonight as well between the Chicago Fire and New York City FC. The two teams are in the Eastern Conference but the big point for Sporting Kansas City fans would be a potential MLS Cup match up should KC make it.
Chicago at New York City
What we want to happen - Chicago win
The Fire are hanging on, just barely, to making the playoffs in 2018, they have five games left counting tonight, and are 12 points behind sixth place Montreal in the East. A loss won’t officially eliminate them, but it pretty much will tonight. NYCFC though currently sits in third in the East, one point behind Kansas City in the single table. So a Chicago win will keep NYC behind Sporting in the Supporter’s Shield table and also keep the Fire alive for a big match up for KC fans this weekend when the Fire host Los Angeles FC.
