It was a big week for Sporting Kansas City as they locked down four key players to extensions. Also with four leaving for international duty and two former players returning to KC this weekend, we have a jam packed podcast.
That being said, we started off with a quality discussion about who the best looking player on the team might be. Who you got? The ruggedness of Russell? The glory of Graham?
All four of us are very happy to see Roger Espinoza, Matt Besler, Graham Zusi, & Ilie Sanchez signed to multi-year deals - as well as the fashion in which the team made the announcements together. Once again the club gets it right.
We touched very briefly on the loss to the Seattle Sounders, although everyone was happy to put that nonsense in the rear-view mirror.
Our old friends Dom Dwyer & Uri Rosell are coming back to Children’s Mercy Park as enemies with Orlando City SC on Saturday. Bob sparked a long conversation with an “Is or Isn’t” about Sporting Legends.
Is Dom a Sporting Legend? Is the criteria too soft? Will all four players who were just extended become Sporting Legends eventually?
The lineup is the big question of the week. The starting front three of Diego Rubio, Daniel Salloi, and Johnny Russell will all be missing on International Duty (as well as Jaylin Lindsey). To make matters worse, Ike Opara will serve a suspension for yellow card accumulation. We expect to see Andreu Fontas’ first minutes in a KC shirt.
ExtraTime: We shifted to US Soccer discussion ahead of Friday’s friendly between the USMNT & Brazil. We also have a new out-tro song in honor of our boys heading to represent their respective countries.
