Comets welcome MLS legend

Mississauga MetroStars visit Kansas City with just two wins all season

The Kansas City Comets are set to host MASL’s only Canadian team, the Mississauga MetroStars, who are bringing an MLS legend to town on Sunday.

The MetroStars are led by former MLS Most Valuable Player and Canada’s top goal scorer, Dwayne de Rosario, who has 14 points from seven goals and seven assists. Phil Lonadi’s side sit third in the Eastern Division with a 2-7 record.

It will be interesting to see how a 40-year-old Dwayne de Rosario will rebound after a match the previous night against the Milwaukee Wave.

The Comets enter the match straight off a win against Utica City FC. The Comets are led by Leo Gibson with 29 points from 13 goals and 16 assists. Kim Rontved’s side are second in the South Central Division with a 5-5 record.

The first ever meeting between these two sides came in December when the Comets pounced to their first win of the season with a 12-6 victory in Ontario.

And in case you haven’t heard, arguably the greatest player in USMNT history, Landon Donovan, has come out retirement for the third time in his career. He will be playing with MASL’s San Diego Sockers for the remainder of the season. This now makes two former MLS MVP’s in the league.

Kansas City hosts MASL’s newest expansion side on Sunday, January 27 at 4:05 PM CT.
