A few reports of Ghanaian striker William Opoku Mensah moving to Sporting Kansas City are almost accurate. The club has confirmed he is in the process of being signed and moving to Kansas City but it will be for Sporting KC’s USL affiliate, the Swope Park Rangers. The transfer will be pending the standard ITC and Visa before becoming final.

Opoku Mensah played for Karela United FC in the Ghana Premier League. The 23-year-old forward scored 6 goals in 14 matches, averaging a goal every 109 minutes.

For Sporting KC, it is not the first time they have interest in a player from Ghana. They signed Latif Blessing, the leading scorer in the Ghana Premier League, for the 2017 season. Blessing had a successful season with SKC but was selected by Los Angeles FC in the expansion draft.

The Swope Park Rangers will be heavily populated by Sporting KC Academy players to continue their development but is also used to bring in players with potential to see if they will fit into the first team. Sporting KC has stated in the past that they will bring in players to the Rangers that they believe can develop into first team contributors.

Latif Blessing scored for the Swope Park Rangers in his only appearance for SKC’s USL affiliate.
