The Scotland Men’s National Team has included Sporting Kansas City forward Johnny Russell on the roster for a pair of UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying matches. Russell has become a regular in the squad since joining Sporting KC.
Russell will leave to join the Scotland squad after Sporting KC’s final regular season match at FC Dallas on Sunday.
Scotland will play Group I opponent Russia on Thursday, Oct. 10 at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow with a 1:45 p.m. CT kickoff. Scotland lost 2-1 to Russia in Glasgow on September 6th. Russell was an unused sub in that match.
After the match in Moscow, Scotland returns home to Hampden Park in Glasgow to face the tiny country of San Marino at 11 a.m. CT on Sunday, Oct. 13.
With a little over 33,000 people, San Marino does not have a lot of professional players to pull from but was able to keep Scotland close when they played in match. Scotland got on the board early with a 4th minute goal from Kenny McLean.
Scotland dominated the Most Serene Republic of San Marino with over 70% possession and out shooting San Marino 22-3 but it took until the 74th minute to extend the lead to 2-0. Russell notched the goal for Scotland but could not add another in a not stellar performance for Scotland.
Steve Clarke has announced his Scotland squad for our matches against Russia & San Marino.
