Even with three suspensions, Comets will still likely run up the score.

After two weeks of preseason and a 10-2 win over the Wichita Wings in an exhibition, the Kansas City Comets will open up their 2019-20 MASL campaign at the Turlock Cal Express.

Earlier this week the Express announced a new head coach, Edgar “Chebo” Martinez Avilez, who will be taking over for Chris Handsor, who led the Express to a tie with the El Paso Coyotes for MASL’s worst record (3-21) last season with a -114 goal differential.

Following much improvement in 2019-20 from the previous season, the Comets have had some changes, but still have some key veterans. Kansas City will be without Robert Palmer (one game red card suspension), Ramone Palmer (one game point accumulation suspension), and Mark Saxby (three game suspension for incident during elimination game against Milwaukee).

With so much change from both sides, I believe the quality of players and experience of the Comets is still going to be difficult for the Express to deal with. The first ever meeting between these two teams could be a lopsided scoreline in favor of the visiting team by the night’s end.

Leo Gibson’s inaugural game as head coach can be live streamed on Masl.tv starting at 9:05 PM CT from Turlock Indoor Soccer on Friday, November 22nd.
