The home openers for all 26 MLS teams have now been officially announced. Sporting Kansas City will start the 2020 Major League Soccer season on the road against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday, February 29th. Sporting fans will have to stay up late for the 9:30 PM CT kick-off.
The following weekend will see SKC return to Children’s Mercy Park for their 2020 home opener against the Houston Dynamo on Saturday, March 7th at 7:30 PM.
The Dynamo, Sporting KC and the Whitecaps finished in the last three spots in the MLS Western Conference.
This should give SKC ample opportunity to kick off their season right. They have had the Whitecaps number over the last few years and have gone five straight unbeaten against the Dynamo.
In 2020, two new teams will join MLS. Nashville SC will come to the Western Conference with Inter Miami CF joining the East.
All 26 teams will play a 34 game schedule as in previous years, but due to the growing size of the conferences, MLS teams will not play all the other teams in the league this season. They will play all 12 conference opponents home and away (24 games) with the final 10 games coming against all but three foes from the opposite conference. Full schedules are expected before the year is over.
