Shelton played in Germany after his year with Sporting KC

Former Sporting Kansas City forward Khiry Shelton has returned to the club where he played in 2018. Shelton has been signed to a three-year MLS contract through 2022 with an option for 2023 by Sporting KC.

After a successful 2018 with Sporting KC, Shelton signed with SC Paderborn 07 in the German second division. Shelton had a knee injury that sidelined him for part of that season but he did appear a couple times helping them get promoted to the Bundesliga.

Shelton made two appearances as a substitute for Paderborn in the first division and was on the bench for an additional 7 games before returning to Kansas City.

In his first stint with Sporting KC, Shelton started 17 of his 24 appearances in all competitions. Shelton was not prolific in 2018, scoring twice and adding five assists in MLS play but he was part of the record breaking offense that saw SKC sit atop the west with an 18-8-8 record. Sporting KC was 12-3-5 in matches Shelton played.

”Khiry is an experienced player who we are excited to bring back to the club,” Sporting Kansas City Manager and Sporting Director Peter Vermes said vie press release. “As the 2020 season approaches, we will continue to strengthen our roster with signings on all three lines of the field.”
