The Kansas City Comets will host the Milwaukee Wave on Saturday to renew another divisional rival.
The Comets enter the match with two new signings: former Sporting Kansas City defender Kevin Ellis and former MISL MVP and Missouri Comets forward Byron Alvarez. Ellis, a graduate of Oak Park High School, played for Sporting KC from 2011-2017 and Alvarez is back with the Comets after being one of the original Comets from 2010.
The Comets are led by MASL leader in points and assists, Leo Gibson, who is fresh off a tremendous performance in a loss at the St. Louis Ambush last week with three goals and four assists. The Comets enter tomorrow’s matchup with a 7-6 record and sit second in the South Central Division.
The Wave are led by Comet-killer Ian Bennett, who has 20 goals on the season with eight goals in just two games against the Comets. The Wave are 11-2 this season and undefeated when first choice goalkeeper Josh Lemos plays, but the Comets delivered Milwaukee their first of two losses of the season in January. The Wave enter the match in first place in the South Central Division with the second best record in the MASL at 11-2.
Once again, the Comets will look to shut down Ian Bennett while the Wave look to do the same against Leo Gibson. This season, these two teams have played each other three times, with the Wave getting two wins while the Comets have one win. It will be interesting to see if the Wave go full force with the Comets being the likely playoff opponent in the opening round.
Tickets are still available to see Kevin Ellis and Byron Alvarez’s debut for the Comets against the Milwaukee Wave on Saturday, February 16, at 7:05 from Silverstein Eyes Centers Arena.
