Shades of Blue Soccer Show - Vamos A Sporting

This week’s podcast covers SKC’s win over the Union, a preview for Thursday’s CCL match, and the new signing of Gedion Zalalem.

MLS: Philadelphia Union at Sporting Kansas City Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

We had a lot to talk about this week as Sporting Kansas City are coming off a 2-0 win over the Philadelphia Union and have a quick turnaround with a Concacaf Champions League match on Thursday at Children’s Mercy Park. Additionally, the club announced the signing of 22-year-old Gedion Zalalem on Monday.

Vermes has brought in another project to work on. Zalalem has a history of injuries but has insane potential. He will figure in as midfield depth, but where exactly? We discuss if/how long you can expect to see him with the Swope Park Rangers.

SKC beat the Union 2-0... but why doesn’t it feel like they did? Bob reiterates his recap that they “eked out” that win. We analyze Gianluca Busio’s performance as well as share thoughts on Botond Borath’s first two matches.

The whole studio was feeling pretty optimistic as we looked ahead to the 2nd leg of the CCL Quarterfinals against Independiente out of Panama. A 1-0 win will see KC advance but a shutout will be very difficult against that speedy attack. We discuss what Peter Vermes may do with his starting lineup, although nobody really has any idea.
