The Kansas City Comets lost a tough one to the Florida Tropics by a score of 12-8.
The Comets saw the return of Lucas Rodriguez to the field, but remained without defender Alain Matingou.
A high scoring first quarter with Comets goals from Leo Gibson, Bryan Perez, and James Togbah, but the Tropics scored four of their own to end the opening period with a 4-3 lead. Florida added another in the second quarter to give them a two goal advantage at halftime.
Both sides added two goals in the third period, with Comets goals from Robert Palmer and Bryan Perez. Florida finished the Comets in the fourth quarter with five goals while the Comets got goals from Anthony Grant and two from Kiel Williams. The final score was 12-8.
The Comets looked tired after an exhausting effort the previous night in Orlando. The Comets dropped back to .500 with a 10-10 record, but KC remains in playoff position with four games remaining.
The Tropics won just their sixth game this season, improving to a record of 6-14. The Tropics are last in the South Central Division, but were led by Ricardo De Quieroz Diegues, who set a franchise record with five goals in a single game on Sunday.
The Comets will return home to Silverstein Eyes Centers Arena for one last time in the regular season on Saturday, March 23, against the St. Louis Ambush. Tickets are still available to watch two teams fighting for the same playoff spot.
