Shades of Blue Soccer Show: Johnny F. Russell

S2:E5 covers the CCL Semifinal win, a tough draw in Colorado, as well as discussion about the growing injury report for Sporting KC.

MLS: Sporting Kansas City at Colorado Rapids Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

With Sporting Kansas City off this week, we’ve got 48 minutes of soccer talk for you. Cody, Thad, and Robert recap the last two matches, argue about keepers, and discuss the injury report.

What a win it was last week in CCL Semifinals against CAI of Panama. SKC overcame a 2-1 deficit in a frustrating match that turned into jubilation. CAI’s keeper Jose Guerra had a good match, but how good was it? Krisztian Nemeth’s goals had our studio very excited, but we move on to the next game before we get too high.

Johnny Russell saved SKC with a late free kick against the Colorado Rapids (and an interesting debate with Graham Zusi). But the rest of the match was rather ugly.

Erik Hurtado is out for 2-3 months after a knee surgery and replacing him won’t be the easiest of tasks. Thad thinks Croizet is the guy and that his style of play will actually be a quite seamless transition. But should Vermes go sign someone right now?

We also discuss the injury to Andreu Fontas as well. Barath may be turning in solid performances, but are they missing something extra without Fontas?

Don’t forget (like Cody) there is KC soccer this weekend as the Swope Park Rangers take on the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Saturday at Children’s Mercy Park.
