Original Story:

First let me shame you. You should already be watching the Swope Park Rangers play in the USL Championship today because it’s the future of Sporting Kansas City stepping on the field every week. But now, you have extra motivation.

The Blue Testament’s own Managing Editor, Thad Bell, is reporting that Peter Vermes indicated that he “expected Zelalem would get some time with @SwopeRangers today.” Yes, US Youth International and former Arsenal man Gedion Zelalem.

If you need another reason to watch during SKC’s FIFA international break, other Sporting KC players are likely to see time as well including Kelyn Rowe, Rodney Wallace and Gianluca Busio.

In the season opener against New York Red Bulls II several other SKC players made appearances for SPR, including: rookie Tyler Freeman, Graham Smith, Wan Kuzain Wan Kamal, Jaylin Lindsey and goalkeeper Eric Dick. I would expect we’ll see at least a few of them as well, though Lindsey is away on international duty with the United States U-20s in preparation for the U-20 World Cup.

Eric Dick is tweeting about the game already so I have to imagine he’ll start in goal again as well.

If those first team players aren’t enough for you, there are several former SKC Academy players on the roster including midfielder Felipe Hernandez and striker Wilson Harris.

The Rangers can be watched with an ESPN+ subscription (just $5 a month and it’s very worth it with the numerous soccer leagues and other sports such as the UFC included along with endless original programing). If you are missing live soccer, tickets are available at the gate and I’ve heard SKC season ticket members get a discount or maybe even free tickets. Go support the kids.
