Comets cruise past Tropics with strong defensive performance

Thad Bell

The Kansas City Comets stretched their winning streak to three games with a 6-2 win over the Florida Tropics Saturday night.

The Comets already depleted roster without Alain Matingou and Adam James through injury was even more depleted without Robert Palmer and Kevin Ellis, who were held out with injuries suffered in last night’s win over Orlando.

The Comets led at halftime with a 4-0 score line with goals from Ramone Palmer, Nacho, John Sosa, and Bryan Perez.

Florida got two of the goals back in the third quarter, but Ramone Palmer and Anthony Grant scored against the sixth attacker in the fourth period to put it out of reach for the Tropics.

The Comets put in a solid performance, less than 24 hours after clinching a playoff position in Orlando. Mark Saxby highlighted the impressive defensive display, recording 11 saves.

Next up for the Comets will be the Milwaukee Wave for the regular season finale, for the first of three consecutive meetings with Milwaukee on Sunday, April 14.

The Comets campaign for the 2019 Ron Newman Cup will begin in the South Central Divisional Series on Thursday, April 18, at Silverstein Eyes Centers Arena at 7:35 PM CT. All tickets for that game will be $15, with season ticket holders getting the first chance to grab tickets on Monday, before general public tickets go on sale later in the week. Game two will be on Saturday, April 20, in Milwaukee.

A great 24 hours for Kansas City soccer, with three wins combined between the two for the Comets in Florida and Sporting KC’s rout of Montreal. 20 goals combined from those three games, with Krisztian Nemeth and Ramone Palmer both scoring three. Sporting outscored the Comets for probably the first time ever with a 7-1 win over the Impact, where the Comets won 6-2 over the Tropics.
