Sporting Kansas City suffered a set back in their MLS regular season opener, falling 2-1 late to Los Angeles FC on a goal by Adama Diomande. Also this weekend the Kansas City Comets moved two games over .500 and put them separation between themselves and the third place St. Louis Ambush in the race for the second playoff spot in the MASL’s South Central Conference. Here are stats and milestones from both of those games.

Sporting Kansas City

Matt Besler started his 300th game in all competitions for KC, he’s the first player to reach that mark.

The loss was Peter Vermes’ 100th league loss while manager of KC.

Graham Zusi made his 213th league start for KC, tying him with Davy Arnaud for 4th all time on that list.

Roger Espinoza made his 203rd league start for KC, tying him with Jimmy Conrad for 6th all time on that list.

In the 44th minute, Tim Melia passed Diego Gutierrez and moved into 20th place for minutes played in all competitions, Melia finished the game with 12,293 minutes played.

Melia made his 136th start in all competitions for KC, breaking his tie with Gutierrez for 20th all time on that list.

It was Melia’s 39th loss in all competitions for KC, tying him with Bo Oshoniyi for 4th all time on that list.

It was Melia’s 35th league loss, tying him with Kevin Hartman for 3rd all time on that list.

Krisztian Nemeth’s goal was his 20th in all competitions for KC, tying him with Igor Simutenkov and Diego Rubio for 17th all time on that list.

Nemeth’s goal was his 7th league goal away from home for KC, tying him with Eddie Johnson, Matt McKeon, and Mark Chung for 16th all time on that list.

It was Nemeth’s 10th goal away from home in all competitions, tying him with Scott Sealy, Mo Johnston, CJ Sapong, and Ike Opara for 11th all time on that list.

Kansas City Comets

John Sosa made his 144th league appearance for the Comets, breaking his tie with Vahid Assadpour for 3rd all time on that list.

Robert Palmer made his 118th appearance in all competitions, tying him with Danny Waltman for 9th all time on that list.

Kiel Williams’ two assist gave him 20 in all competitions for his career, tying him with Max Touloute for 14th all time on that list.

It gave him 19 in league play for the Comets, breaking his tie with Milan Ivanovic for 14th all time on that list.
