Shades of Blue Soccer Show: Things worse than Kaku

A Sporting KC podcast to fulfill your soccer talk needs this week. Revisit the NYRB draw and Kaku incident, plus look ahead to the San Jose match.

MLS: New York Red Bulls at Sporting Kansas City Peter G. Aiken

This week’s podcast covers everything from the past week and a look ahead to the weekend. Sporting Kansas City had every chance in the world to take all three points but settled for a 2-2 draw. Then Busio-mania ensued. We talked about the hype around the 16-year-old and what he brings to the team. Cody, Robert, and Thad also assess the injury situation and look at potential lineups for San Jose.

Chance after chance was wasted against the New York Red Bulls last weekend, but Gianluca Busio saved the day with an equalizer in the 88th minute. The kid has a knack for moving off the ball and being in the right place at the right time. The fans are loving it.

But should he be starting? Who does he start over? How does that change the team?

Of course, we had to discuss the Kaku incident. What was going through that man’s head, if anything? We tried to find an agreement on an appropriate punishment, but it isn’t easy.

Something that went fairly unnoticed from the match was the sellout streak coming to an end. Although there were more people in the stadium than we have seen be called a sellout before, this time there weren’t enough ticket sales to qualify for a sellout. We examine why this may have happened and if it is a sign of a larger problem.

The injuries have been piling up but Salloi looks to be ready to play. Plus, Jimmy Medranda was actually back on the field. We also check in with the rest of the squad.

We have finally reached a point where the lineup discussions don’t become fist fights for SKC fans. The schedule has calmed down and picking a Starting XI is becoming easier. Who should start vs San Jose Earthquakes?
