Sporting Kansas City are in a bit of a rut. They are winless in five straight games counting the CCL and just 2-2-3 so far in MLS play in 2019. That leaves them in eighth place in the Western Conference, one spot below the red line. It’s very early, but Sporting KC are already 13 points behind first place Los Angeles Football Club. 13 points. SKC have just nine points through seven games.
That’s what makes the upcoming home stand so critically important for SKC. Typically they get off to fast starts, fade and then maybe recover. Maybe they are just getting the summer swoon out of the way in the spring.
Sporting Kansas City will play five of their next six games at home, with just a single trip to Washington D.C. in the middle. The question for today is, how many points do Sporting KC need to pick up in these six games? They could potentially pick up a massive 18 points over that stretch. But how many are realistic?
Here is the next six games.
- Sat. 4/27/19 — Sporting KC v New England Revolution
- Sun. 5/5/19 — Sporting KC v Atlanta United
- Sun. 5/12/19 — Sporting KC @ D.C. United
- Sat. 5/18/19 — Sporting KC v Vancouver Whitecaps
- Sun. 5/26/19 — Sporting KC v Seattle Sounders
- Wed. 5/29/19 — Sporting KC v LA Galaxy
The Whitecaps, Atlanta and New England have a combined 17 points and just four wins. Those feel like must win games (though don’t count out the Caps and Marc Dos Santos). The games against D.C., Seattle and the Galaxy should be tougher. They have a combined 48 points and 15 wins. It won’t be easy.
