The show must go on.

34-year-old midfielder Benny Feilhaber is reportedly returning to Sporting Kansas City after being acquired in a trade up against the transfer deadline on Monday.. Sporting KC sent 22-year-old defender Abdul Rwatubyaye and a draft pick in exchange for the midfielder.

Feilhaber was part of the Sporting KC core for five seasons, joining the club off a transfer in 2013 and helping lead SKC to the 2013 MLS Cup. He scored 32 goals and assisted in 37 during his tenure with Sporting.

Following the 2017 season, he was traded to Los Angeles FC, where he scored four goals and assisted two. He then signed with the Colorado Rapids as a free agent, where he had two goals and two assists in nine matches in 2019.

The move helps solidify the midfield at a time where Roger Espinoza is out for several months. Feilhaber has one more year left on his contract with a club option for 2020, making this a low-risk move for Sporting, considering Feilhaber’s age and declining abilities.

This report will be updated with quotes and reactions from practice later today.

UPDATE: Confirmed that Feilhaber has been traded to Sporting Kansas City. Rwatubyaye to Colorado. Assets also moved between teams.
