Across State Lines: Ryan Pore Named Roos New Coach

The Kansas City Roos have a new men’s soccer coach in former Sporting Kansas City player, Ryan Pore. After former head coach, Rick Benben retired at the end of the season, the head coaching job at UMKC opened up for the first time in 22 years. Pore, a Generation Adidas pick by the then Wizards in 2005 made 61 league appearances for the club, scoring three goals over four seasons with the club. After being out of contract at the end of the 2008 season, Pore signed with the Portland Timbers, who were in the USL at that time. In 2010, Pore was the USSF D2 Pro League’s golden boot winner with 15 goals and was the league MVP as the Timbers finished 13-7-10. When the Timbers moved up to MLS, Pore came with them making a handful of appearances before going on loan to the Montreal Impact who were in the NASL at that time. Retiring after that season he shortly after became an assistant coach at the University of Tulsa, where he’d attended college, where he’s been since until being named the Roos coach this week.

In other news, it has been a busy week for former Kansas City players with he US leagues getting closer to preseason and the 2020 season, teams are signing new players for the upcoming season, players like Tucker Stephenson have joined Joe Amico at Oklahoma City and Gedion Zelalem signing with New York City FC. Coaches are also joining new clubs (or old clubs in this case) as Frank Klopas was named an assistant coach for the Chicago Fire this past week. In national team news, Amer Didic earned his first cap for Canada this week, and scored his first international goal in the same game as Canada beat Barbados 4-1 in a friendly. Meanwhile former KC forward, Kharlton Belmar looks set to play for the Grenada national team after receiving his passport this past week.
