Rumor: Sporting KC interested in Argentinian midfielder Emanuel Maciel

After signing a defender and a pair of forwards, a midfielder rumor has finally surfaced. Emanuel Maciel of San Lorenzo in the Argentinian first division is reportedly drawing interest from both Sporting Kansas City and the Colorado Rapids in MLS and Godoy Cruz in Argentina.

The article linking Maciel to Sporting KC and Colorado was published on the 1st but another article on the 3rd had him linked to Inter Miami and Godoy. It is unclear if this is a serious interest from Sporting KC, an interest in bringing him to Sporting KC II in the USL Championship or a casual inquiry to see if there is interest from the player and club in moving him to MLS. According to transfermarkt his contract expires in June of 2021 so he would not be a free transfer.

There is not a lot of info on Maciel, he has only played one first team game with San Lorenzo but the 22-year-old is considering moving to search of more playing time.

The one game he appeared in was a SuperLiga match versus Godoy Cruz, the same team that also wants to acquire him. In that match he had 107 touches with an 85.9% passing accuracy as the left sided holding mid in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

With the San Lorenzo reserves, he may have played more as an attacker, at least at times wearing the #11 shirt.

Not a lot of information available if this even a serious interest and not an agent drumming up rumors in the search of more dollars. Does he look like Sporting KC material?
