Sporting KC II Sign Dual National Goalkeeper

Remi Prieur joins the USL Championship after being drafted by the Columbus Crew.

MLS: Los Angeles FC at Sporting Kansas City Peter G. Aiken

Sporting Kansas City II added their third goalkeeper on Monday. The team signed Remi Prieur who was just drafted in the second round of the 2020 MLS SuperDraft by the Columbus Crew SC. He didn’t get offered a contract with the Crew.

Prieur, 22, spent four seasons with Saint Mary’s College. His first full season as a starter came in 2018 where he led his team to the WCC Championship. He would go on to be the WCC Goalkeeper of the Year both that year and in 2019.

While he was born in Mödling, Austria, he moved to California where he grew up. He is a dual national for both the United States and France. Before heading off to college he was a member of the San Jose Earthquakes Academy and was team captain in 2014 and 2015 when he led the team to the USSDA National Quarterfinals and Semifinals respectively.

Fit with SKC II

Remi Prieur joins fellow goalkeepers John Pulskamp (18) and Brooks Thompson (17) with Sporting KC II. Before this signing, Peter Vermes had indicated Eric Dick went out on loan to Phoenix Rising to make room for Pulskamp and Thompson to get minutes in goal, while allowing Dick minutes with PRFC. Prieur would seem to have an uphill battle to get ahead of both promising talents on the depth chart. Prieur is also the 14th player on SKC II’s roster for the 2020 season.
