Juice Boxes and Post Game Stats: Ilie Makes 100th Appearance, Gibson Hits 200

The new MLS season has kicked off and Sporting Kansas City picked up a 3-1 win on the road against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Closer to home, the Kansas City Comets were on the road against the St. Louis Ambush, but a short handed Comets team fell 5-4 all but ending their hopes of making a playoff run this year. Here are stats and milestones from the two games this weekend.

Sporting Kansas City

Ilie Sanchez made his 100th league appearance for Sporting, he’s the 35th player to reach that mark.

It was Sanchez’s 100th MLS start as well, he’s the 30th player to reach that mark.

Alan Pulido and Gadi Kinda became the 21st and 22nd players to score a goal in their MLS regular season debut for Kansas City. They were the 20th and 21st players to score a goal in their debut in all competitions.

In the 77th minute, Tim Melia moved ahead of Jack Jewsbury and into 11th place all time for league minutes played for KC, he finished the game with 13,289 minutes played.

In the 45th minute, Melia moved ahead of Mo Johnston and into 13th place for minutes played in MLS competitions, he finished the game wtih 13,823 minutes played.

Melia made his 171st appearance in all competitions, breaking his tie with Michael Harrington for 15th all time on that list.

It was Melia’s 154th appearance in all MLS competitions, tying him with Harrington for 16th all time on that list.

It was Melia’s 148th league appearance, breaking his tie with Chance Myers for 15th all time on that list.

Melia made his 148th league start, breaking his tie with Benny Feilhaber for 11th all time on that list.

At 33 years, 290 days, Melia became the 15th oldest player to appear in a league game or in a game in all competitions for Sporting KC moving ahead of Refik Sabanadzovic, Jimmy Conrad, Josh Wolff, and Paulo Nagamura on both lists.

Melia also became the 15th oldest player to start a league game or in a game in all competitions for Sporting moving ahead of Refik Sabanadzovic, Jimmy Conrad, Josh Wolff, and Paulo Nagamura on both lists.

At 33 years, 195 days, Graham Zusi became the 20th oldest player to appear in a league game or in all competitions, taking Mark Santel’s place on both lists.

Zusi also became the 20th oldest player to start a game in all competitions for Sporting, replacing Santel on that list as well.

Gerso Fernandes recorded his 19th assist in all competitions for KC, tying him with Sasha Victorine and Matt Besler for 16th all time on that list.

Kansas City Comets

Leo Gibson made his 200th league appearance for the Comets, he’s the first player to reach that mark.

Lucas Rodriguez’s first goal was his 200th goal/assist for the Comets in all competitions, he’s the 4th player to reach that mark.

Adam James recorded his 15th assist in league play for the Comets, tying him with Max Touloute and Ryan Junge for 17th all time on that list.

It was James’ 15th assist in all competitions as well, tying him with Junge for 19th all time on that list.

The assist was James’ 35th goal/assist for the Comets in league play, breaking his tie with Guerrero Pino for 19th all time on that list.

It was his 35th in all competitions as well, breaking his tie with Pino and Jamar Beasley for 19th all time on that list.

James made his 48th league appearance, tying him with Junge for 17th all time on that list.

James made his 49th appearance in all competitions for the Comets, tying him with Geison for 20th all time on that list.

Ignacio Flores made his 84th league appearance for the Comets, tying him with Byron Alvarez for 12th all time on that list.

Kiel Williams made his 83rd league appearance for the Comets, breaking his tie with Coady Andrews for 14th all time on that list.

Williams made his 92nd appearance in all competitions, tying him with Andrews for 13th all time on that list.

Gui Gomes made his 45th league appearance, breaking his tie with Geison and Cristiano for 20th all time on that list.
