No Other Pod - Brennan Williams, Sporting KC Manager of Youth Programs

Brennan Williams returns to No Other Pod to talk youth training and development in the age of social distancing

Thad Bell

What day is it?! Where are we? Is soccer ever coming back?

All of these seem like very valid questions in the age of social distancing. All of our lives have changed in some way, especially when it comes to how we work and how we interact with sports (or the lack-thereof). Now imagine your job IS sports. What do you do?

That’s the predicament Brennan Williams finds himself in, along with every other staff member of Sporting Kansas City. Brennan is the Manager of Youth Programs for the club, and he is in large part responsible for the training and development of children throughout the region who are part of the Sporting Club Network.

How do you train and develop kids when you can’t have practice? What are some of the ways to make sure kids stay sharp and motivated? What does managing a network of youth clubs even look like when they can’t play? All of these and more were questions that Brennan answered in this weeks interview (which starts at the 23:15 mark).

Brennan gave a fascinating look into the inner workings of the club during the pandemic, how the team is training the players of tomorrow, and what new techniques they’ve discovered that they’ll carry forth even when COVID-19 is a thing of the past. You won’t want to miss this one!
