Across State Lines: Catching Up

The soccer world is returning with leagues around the world beginning to play again, including leagues with former Sporting Kansas City players. Some have been playing longer than others, Igor Kostrov plays in Belarus, a league that didn’t stop their season at all with the COVID-19 pandemic. Others like Nicolas Hasler (Thun) and Jordi Quintilla (St. Gallen) who play in Switzerland, just returned to play this past week, and still others, like all the former players in MLS are still about two weeks away from kicking off.

Over the past three months there’s been other news about former Kansas City players that has come out. In good news, KC natives Sinclaire Miramontez and Addisyn Merrick both officially signed with the NWSL’s North Carolina Courage ahead of that league’s return to play this weekend. Other former Sporting players, Emmanuel Appiah and Nansel Selbol have signed with new clubs in Finland and Croatia respectively. In news that’s less good, former Kansas City midfielder, Benji Joya was released by his club, the Oakland Roots after being arrested for allegedly sending explicit pictures to a teen. In sad news, former draft pick Ken Snow, passed away from COVID-19 this past week. Snow was drafted in the 16th round of the inaugural MLS draft back in 1996. Snow never played a game for Kansas City, and spent the majority of his career playing in indoor league’s around the US.
