Exclusive: Tim Melia talks MLS is Back tournament, CBA negotiations, quarantine training, and more

Sporting KC goalkeeper Tim Melia joined No Other Pod to talk about how the MLS is Back tournament came together and what he’s been up to during quarantine.

MLS: Houston Dynamo at Sporting Kansas City Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

As we get closer to the #MLSisBack tournament, more and more details about how the tournament was created and the negotiations that went into it have leaked out.

Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Tim Melia had a huge role to play in the negotiations. As the MLS Players Association union rep for Sporting KC, it was his role to keep the rest of his teammates informed on the process, what was happening, and how it may affect the return to play.

Tim joined No Other Pod to talk to us about the whole creation of the tournament, how complicated it will be for players with families and children, and why the new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) negotiations complicated things even more. We also talked to Tim about life during quarantine with two small children, what it’s like to return to training, why goalkeepers are considered the “weirdest” players on the team (not our words!), and much more.
