Add Dutch club PSV Eindhoven to the list of clubs that are interested in Sporting Kansas City midfielder Gianluca Busio. Today, in response to the ongoing discussion from ESPN’s Jon Champion and Taylor Twellman, former SKC announcer Callum Williams chimed in that “PSV [are] extremely interested” in the 18-year-old.
This on the heels of rumors that Italian giants Juventus, Milan, Fiorentina and Dutch club Feyenoord are “keenly watching” the KC Homegrown.
On @TaylorTwellman & @JonChampionJC conversation on Gianluca Busio..... Fiorentina seem the front runners, but don’t count out interest from elsewhere. Fielded a call last week suggesting PSV extremely interested. Go where you can develop but also play #SportingKC #MLSisBack

He also noted that Fiorentina, who have been in this race a long time, “seem [to be] the front runners.” Williams cautioned not to rule out interest from elsewhere.
Busio did start for the first time in the COVID Cup MLS is Back Tournament and logged 67 minutes before coming off for Gadi Kinda. Add that to a mere 25 minutes across four appearances in the first four games of the year and he still doesn’t have 90 minutes on the field in 2020 (outside of scrimmages and friendlies in the preseason and all that stoppage time that doesn’t seem to count).
Imagine going into today knowing all those teams were watching you. Busio definitely didn’t have his best game and these rumors can’t be entirely ruled out as a factor in that.
Despite that, it seems more obvious than ever, someone is going to come in with a big offer to rip Busio away from Sporting KC. And they should absolutely sell... eventually. They have two years until he can leave on a free transfer, so it’ll be interesting to watch this saga unfold. If you forced a guess out of me, I’d say he’s gone in the next 6-12 months.
