Across State Lines: Surgery Ends Saari’s Season

The end of the 2020 USL Championship season came early for Kansas City native and Kansas City Comets player, Ray Saari as his club, the Oklahoma City Energy announced this past week that Saari would miss the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery. Saari has played in just three games for the Energy this year, playing a total of 87 minutes for the club.

Elsewhere, two former Sporting Kansas City players have joined clubs for the 2020-2021 league season in Europe. Nicolas Hasler as returned to FC Thun, who he’d joined after leaving Kansas City at the end of the 2019 season. Thun had been relegated to the Swiss second division through the playoffs losing on aggregate to FC Vaduz. After originally not returning to the club, Hasler now comes back as he tries to help them promote back to the Swiss Super League. After an unsuccessful trial in Scotland, Yann Songo’o signed for Morecambe FC in the English fourth division, EFL League Two. Songo’o had been released by his prior club, Scunthorpe United at the end of the last league season.
