The Kansas City Comets fell to the Florida Tropics with a 7-4 loss on Sunday afternoon.
The Comets return from Florida with their first two losses of the season, including Friday’s overtime thriller. KC did have some rotation with Robert Kelly, Mirko Sandivari, and Robert Kelly all getting time on Sunday. Kevin Ellis was absent with a knee injury while Ray Lee’s action was limited.
Anthony Arico scored the only goal of the first quarter for the Florida Tropics, giving the hosts a 1-0 advantage. Joey Tavernese doubled Florida’s lead, but Ramone Palmer was able to pull one back for the Comets off a restart. The Tropics got another pair of goals as Florida entered halftime with a 4-1 lead. Comets player-coach Leo Gibson was also sent off towards the end of the half for abusive language.
Rian Marques scored for KC to bring them back within two, but the Tropics answered with three straight to make it 7-2. Matt Lewis and Adam James scored late for the Comets to make it a more respectable 7-4 final.
The Comets drop to 1-2 on the season while the Tropics remain perfect with a 4-0 record. Once again, KC showed that the goals can come from a variety of different players. KC had four different goalscorers on Sunday.
The Comets will look to return to winning ways with their first visit of the season to the St. Louis Ambush for their home opener next Saturday.
