Across State Lines: Besler Signs with Austin FC

Sporting Kansas City’s former captain, Matt Besler has officially joined a new club as it was announced today that Besler has signed for expansion side Austin FC. He joins two former Kansas City players, both former teammates of Beser. Austin’s head coach is Sporting Legend, Josh Wolff and one of Wolff’s assistants is former captain Davy Arnaud. Besler is a good addition for the expansion side and will be looked on to be a leader for the team on the field in their expansion season. He very well could be named the club’s first captain as well. It’s sad news that Besler has signed though because even though he’d said his goodbye to Sporting and Sporting said their thank yous to Besler the actual announcement of his signing still hits the same way it did when those goodbyes were made. There will certainly be some questions to ask regarding his pace and what level he can play at, but given the right system he can still certainly play a role for an MLS team in 2021.

In other news this week, former Sporting midfielder, Soni Mustivar has a new club, as he’s left Romania and joined Nea Salamina in the Cyproit First Division. Former KC midfielder, Toni Dovale played for the club in 2018-2019 as well. Here’s the rest of this week’s update.
