Kansas City NWSL take the field for the last time, at least under their current placeholder name. At halftime of their match with OL Reign, the team will announce a new name, crest and brand. The reveal is part of Kansas City’s fan appreciation night. It will also be their last match at Legends Field before moving to Children’s Mercy Park and then to their own stadium at Port KC.

The game itself will not affect Kansas City’s standings; they have been out of the playoffs for a while but the Reign want points to prevent Washington from catching them in the standings and to build momentum for the playoffs.

Kansas City (3-13-7, 16pts) have been undefeated in their last seven home matches and have made it tough on visitors. Head coach Huw Williams is hoping to keep that run going. “I am hoping to keep up the momentum and getting the eighth result at home. Over the season, and with feedback from other teams, I think we have become a difficult team to play against at home.”

Williams knows it will not be easy. OL Reign (12-8-3, 39 pts) want to get back to winning after a loss and a draw in their last two. “Perhaps the most talented team in the league that is still playing for a position,” Williams stated. “We expect it to be really tough.”

Both teams should have players back from international duty making it harder to choose a starting lineup. Kansas City has experimented a bit with players in different positions and formations but the tinkering should be over for the season and Williams will probably go with his best lineup available.
