Sporting KC might have "won the west" in a weird year with an unbalanced schedule, but like clockwork, Seattle made it to MLS Cup.
They've had a busy offseason though so it'll be interesting to see where they land in 2021. One big difference between Seattle and a lot of other teams in the league is that Seattle isn't afraid to make a splash in the summer transfer window so expect them to add an impact player when the summer window opens.
2020 Stats:
Leading scorers: Raul Ruidiaz (12), Jordan Morris (10), Nico Lodeiro (7)
Leading assists: Jordan Morris (7), Nico Lodeiro (6), Christian Roldan (5)
Transfers in:
Kelyn Rowe
Transfers out:
Jordan Morris, Joevin Jones, Gustav Svensson, Kelvin Leerdam, Roman Torres
Of the transfers out, JMo and Svensson are huge. Svensson was a rock in the defensive midfield role. Jordan Morris was arguably the biggest offensive threat Seattle had. Leerdam and Jones both played significant minutes last year.
Without any additional signings this window, Seattle has questions on both left and right wing. Their midfield three is spearheaded again by Lodeiro with Roldan and Joao Paulo setting up behind him. Nouhou and Alex Roldan will hold down the fullback positions. Gomez Andrade and Arreaga will be the starting CBs.
Seattle seems to have the same recipe every year. Don't play very hard until June or July and then go on a rampage. Losing Jordan Morris should really hurt but if they sell him for a fee in the summer (Editor: this was written before his ACL tear in England), I'm sure they'll reinvest that money into a DP winger.
