The Kansas City Comets extended their winning streak to three games with a 10-6 win over the Dallas Sidekicks on Friday night at Cable Dahmer Arena.

Rookie forward Rian Marques led the way, recording his first career hat trick in the MASL. Newly loaned forward Dominic Francis also recorded a brace in his Comets debut. John Sosa, Ray Lee, and Kevin Ellis also found the back of the net for the home side.

After Oscar Romero opened the scoring for the Sidekicks inside the first minute, the Comets responded with four straight goals. Dallas got one back, but KC added two more before Romero scored his second of the night at the end of the second quarter as KC took a 6-3 lead into halftime.

Mike DaSilva restored KC’s three-goal lead early in the third period, but Dallas cut the advantage down to two with goals from Felipe De Sousa and Julio Varela. The Comets managed to take a 9-6 lead into the final quarter before Rian Marques added his third of the night, resulting in Dallas putting in their sixth attacker for an unsuccessful comeback attempt.

The Comets return to .500 with a 4-4 record, tied with the San Diego Sockers in third place of the MASL. The Sidekicks remain in last with a 1-6 record and a .143 winning percentage.

While the Comets weren’t their best, they still pulled out the win. KC had seven different goalscorers and 12 out of their 14 field players recorded a point. The Comets ended the night killing two of their three penalties. KC’s powerplay offense still struggled, though they were given a powerplay goal after Francis put in his own rebound from a shootout.

Both sides will see each other once again on Sunday at 5 p.m. CST when the Comets will look to continue their fourth consecutive win on home turf.
