How to Watch Sporting KC Versus the LA Galaxy

It’s the final preseason game and you can finally watch it (depending on where you live or how sneaky you are feeling).

MLS: Sporting Kansas City at LA Galaxy Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

Update: The Live Stream (see details below to see if your eligible) is going to be at SportingKC.com/Live

The last time we saw Sporting Kansas City play the LA Galaxy it was a 7-2 beatdown in Los Angeles with Zlatan Ibrahimovic leading the charge. That was way back on September 15th of 2019. This one won’t count, though it’s a chance to get that one back, if even just a little bit. The most important thing is, you’ll finally be able to watch some Sporting KC soccer (at least if you live in the right area or know the right tricks).

When: Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 2:00 PM CST

Where: Kino North Complex, Tucson, Arizona

How to Watch

Here is where, unfortunately, it gets a bit complicated for some. If you are in Arizona, simply buy some tickets from the hosts FC Tucson. If you aren’t, the game will be streamed, but as reported by The Blue Testament’s Thad Bell, the game will be geofenced to viewers in the Bally Sports KC (Fox Sports KC rebrand) viewing area.

So if you are a Sporting KC fan and you happen to live outside of that area, but don’t have a way to get to AZ, you are out of luck (now technically there are ways around geofencing that we won’t detail here for legal purposes).

As for why this is the case, it seems to have something to do with contracts with Major League Soccer and Sinclair (the owners of Bally Sports Kansas City and all the other regional channels formerly known as Fox Sports). That contract is expiring, but not in time for this season. And in 2022, Bally Sports will have a streaming network you can get to outside of buying cable or satellite (much more on that here).

The good news is, you don’t need Bally Sports KC to watch this game, you just need to live in their service area. If you have more questions, they’ve put out an FAQ on the matter. What it doesn’t say is what the service area is, though there are reports it’s as wide as central Missouri, Kansas, eastern Nebraska, and Iowa. Check with your local cable provider (even if you don’t have cable or satellite) and see if Bally Sports KC (or Fox Sports KC) is offered. If it is, you are good.

How to watch the stream itself hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s a good bet it’ll be on SportingKC.com and in some past seasons it was on YouTube or FC Tucson’s site directly. Checking LAGalaxy.com isn’t a bad idea if you are in that part of the country, and perhaps it won’t be geofenced (as has been the case with streams from some other teams in the past). Wherever it’s at, we’ll update this story with streams as they go live, so add this to your favorites and set yourself a reminder for 2:00 PM on Saturday to be ready to watch your first live SKC soccer of 2021.
