CONCACAF announced today that the federations tournament, the Gold Cup will be returning to Kansas City this summer. The federation announced all sites that will be hosting games for this summer’s tournament, and for the fourth time, Kansas City will be a host.
Children’s Mercy Park has hosted a Gold Cup double header in 2011, 2015, and 2019. It will be the first time that Kansas City will host back to back tournaments having previously not hosted in 2013 and 2017.
Kansas City’s previous three times hosting has seen the US men’s national team be one of the teams play in the double header at Children’s Mercy Park. The USA defeated Guadeloupe 1-0 in 2011, tied Panama 1-1 in 2015, and defeated Panama 1-0 in 2019. KC has also been the venue for the last group games each time the Gold Cup has been here.
Should Kansas City again host the US team, other teams that will be in Kansas City for the tournament will be Canada, Martinique, and one of four teams that will play a qualifying pair of qualification knock out games before the Gold Cup. The US will be grouped with one of Haiti, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Bermuda, and Barbados.
